Stoke St Mary was mentioned in Domesday, but the first written record dates from 854 AD. The village itself has many listed old houses, with the Church’s tower dating from the thirteenth century. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Haydon and Shoreditch, as well as a scattering of ex farmhouses set in the Vale and along the ridge which forms Stoke Hill. Though only 3.2 miles from the centre of Taunton, the village is uncompromisingly rural. We have a vibrant village community with regular activities in the village hall, and we are redeveloping the play park to cater for the growing number of children in the village.
